Lightning Node Lookup - Explore the Lightning Network

A Lightning node lookup retrieves channel count, capacity, connectivity, and routing characteristics for any Lightning Network node. Use robtex.com to search nodes by public key or alias.

The Lightning Network

Lightning is Bitcoin's layer-2 scaling solution. Instead of recording every payment on the blockchain, Lightning routes payments through channels between nodes.

Understanding the network requires node-level visibility:

• Who operates major routing nodes?
• How well connected is a node?
• What capacity exists for routing payments?

Node Information

Public key - 66-character hex identifier (e.g., 02abc...). The node's permanent identity.

Alias - Human-readable name chosen by the operator.

Capacity - Total BTC locked in the node's channels.

Channel count - Number of connections to other nodes.

First seen - When the node first appeared on the network.

Addresses - Network endpoints (IP/Tor) for connecting.

Evaluating Node Connectivity

Well-connected nodes route more payments. Key metrics:

Betweenness centrality - How often the node appears in shortest paths between other nodes. Higher is better for routing.

Channel partners - Who the node connects to. Connections to major hubs improve routing reach.

Capacity distribution - Many small channels vs. few large channels affects routing flexibility.

Uptime - Nodes must be online to route. Unreliable nodes miss routing opportunities.

Using Node Lookup

For routing - Evaluate potential channel partners before committing funds.

For payments - Check if recipient nodes are well-connected and reliable.

For research - Analyze network topology, identify central nodes, track growth.

For running nodes - See how your node compares to others.
