Domain Reputation Check - Blocklist & Ranking Analysis

A domain reputation check queries a domain against DNS blocklists, threat databases, and ranking services to assess its trustworthiness. Use robtex.com to see if a domain is flagged for spam, phishing, or malware — and discover its ranking among the world's top domains.

What We Check

Our domain reputation scanner combines multiple data sources:

Domain Rankings

  • Majestic Million - Top 1M domains ranked by referring subnets and IPs (backlink quality)
  • Tranco Top 1M - Aggregated ranking combining multiple sources for stability
  • Cloudflare Radar - Top domains by DNS query volume through Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 resolver

Threat & Blocklist Databases

  • HaGeZi DNS Blocklist - Comprehensive blocklists covering ads, trackers, malware, and various threat categories
  • Blackbook - Known malware and command-and-control domains
  • StevenBlack Hosts - Unified hosts file blocking ads, malware, and trackers
  • Phishing Database - Known phishing domains
  • Disposable Email - Temporary/throwaway email domains often used for abuse

DNS-Based Blocklists (URIBLs) - 12 real-time domain blocklists including Spamhaus DBL, SURBL, URIBL, SORBS RHSBL, and more. These are queried by email filters to detect malicious links in message content.

Understanding Results

Rankings (Majestic, Tranco, Cloudflare Radar):

  • 🟢 Ranked - Domain appears in top 1M (established, trusted)
  • ⚪ Not ranked - Domain isn't in top 1M (neutral, not negative)

Threat Databases (HaGeZi, Blackbook, Phishing, etc.):

  • 🔴 Listed - Domain flagged with specific category
  • 🟢 Clean - Domain not in this database

DNS Blocklists (URIBLs):

  • 🔴 Listed - Domain appears on this blocklist
  • 🟢 Clean - Domain not currently listed
  • ❌ Error - Temporary query failure

Why Domain Reputation Matters

Email Deliverability - Domains appearing in message bodies are checked against URIBLs. Links to bad domains can cause entire messages to be filtered.

Website Trust - Browsers and security tools block access to domains flagged for phishing or malware.

Brand Protection - Domain reputation affects how users and automated systems perceive your organization.

Due Diligence - Before doing business with a company, checking their domain reputation reveals security red flags.

Key Sources Explained

Domain Rankings

Majestic Million - Ranks domains by referring subnets and IPs (backlink quality). Good indicator of established, legitimate domains. Higher rank = more trusted.

Tranco - Aggregated ranking combining Alexa, Umbrella, Majestic, and Quantcast for stability. Academic-backed methodology, resistant to manipulation.

Cloudflare Radar - Based on DNS query volume through Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 resolver. Reflects real-world usage patterns.

Threat Databases

HaGeZi - Multi-category DNS blocklist covering ads, trackers, malware, fake news, gambling, and more. Widely used for DNS-level blocking.

Blackbook - Curated list of known malware distribution domains and C2 infrastructure. High confidence indicators.

StevenBlack - Community-maintained unified hosts file blocking known bad domains across multiple categories.

DNS Blocklists

Spamhaus DBL - The most important domain blocklist. Lists domains used in spam, phishing, and malware. Widely used by major email providers.

SURBL - Spam URI Realtime Blocklist. Tracks domains appearing in spam messages and malicious content.

URIBL - Multiple lists (Multi, Black, Grey, Red) with different listing criteria and severity levels.

Database vs DNS Blocklists

DNS Blocklists (URIBLs) - Queried in real-time via DNS. Results can change minute-to-minute. Used by email filters and security tools during active filtering.

Database Blocklists - Static lists updated periodically (hourly to daily). Include threat intel feeds, phishing databases, and curated blocklists. Provide historical context.

Both types matter. A domain can be clean on DNS blocklists but flagged in threat databases (or vice versa). Check both for complete picture.

FAQ

My domain is listed - what should I do?
First identify which list(s) and why. Each blocklist has its own removal process. Fix the underlying issue (malware, phishing page, spam links) before requesting removal.
I'm not ranked in Majestic/Tranco - is that bad?
Not necessarily. These track the top 1 million domains. New, small, or specialized domains won't appear. Absence doesn't indicate poor reputation - it just means your domain isn't among the most popular million sites globally.
Why check domain reputation if I already check IP reputation?
Different attack vectors. IP reputation blocks the sending server. Domain reputation blocks malicious links regardless of sending IP. Both matter for email security.
Can domain reputation affect my website's SEO?
Indirectly. Malware/phishing listings trigger browser warnings that devastate traffic. Clean reputation is essential for any public-facing domain.
What's the difference between domain and hostname reputation?
Domain is the apex (example.com). Hostname includes subdomains (mail.example.com). Some blocklists check both; others only check the apex domain.
How do disposable email domains affect me?
If you're accepting email registrations, blocking disposable domains reduces fake signups and abuse. If you're checking a domain, disposable status indicates it's a temporary service.
Why is HaGeZi listing my domain?
HaGeZi has multiple categories (ads, trackers, malware, etc.). Check which specific list flagged you. Some categories (like "ads") may be intentional if you run advertising. Others (like "malware") require immediate investigation. ← Check IP reputation on robtex.com
